Plot: Zombie Hood begins on the eve of a worldwide zombie outbreak with a small group of survivors escaping the city. With food being in short supply, the survivors must risk visiting populated areas in an effort to stave off starvation. Full summary » | »
Story: The initial infection begins after the virus spreads through a nightclub and is quickly transmitted throughout the city. After a night of disturbances across the whole of the United Kingdom, the police and emergency services lose control of the situation, with hospitals overrun and the dead coming back to life to attack and devour the living. With the cities now the domain of the undead, the survivors flee the built up areas and take refuge in the countryside and small villages. Zombie Hood follows the story of a small group of survivors who are thrown together in the outskirts of Nottingham. Like Robin Hood and his merry men, the rag tag band look to Sherwood Forest for sanctuary, but soon find out that even the countryside isn't a safe haven. With food and supplies in short demand, the group find themselves arguing over their plans for survival, which isn't helped by Sam, a wayward teenager with a confused and dangerous personality. I wanted this to be a great local film. So maybe my review is going tobe based more on disappointment than neutral reflection. I reallywanted this to be a film which demonstrated that a low budget film madeby amateurs who just wanted to make a film for the fun and experienceof it could compete with the pro's. In some respects the illusion ofpro was achieved. The camera work is generally good, the excellent makeup and special effects is on a par with the big boys, and consideringthe amateur status their is some generally believable acting. There arealso some good individual scenes, but herein lies the problem. The filmfeels like a series of individual scenes with just a loose coherence ofplot to hold it together. There are so many random death sceneshappening outside the core characters that they lose their identitywithin the film. The characters are diluted, and as they seem to haveno set desires or goals outside of survival you have no affinity orconnection with them. To use a rather poor metaphor if I may. A goodfilm has a spine of a plot with the characters running along it and theskin and muscle are the scenes that put flesh of story on the film.Zombie Hood feels more of an exoskeleton of plot with all the guts andscenes thrown in to make a film. So if you are a Zombie aficionado thenwatch zombie hood, if you live in the East Mids where it was made thenwatch zombie hood as for both reasons you will get something from thisfilm.
